Sigena

Mythical Theme Room

1050 wird Nürnberg erstmals urkundlich erwähnt.

A love story lets Nuremberg enter history out of the dark of the Middle Ages. Richolf, a nobleman in the services of Emperor Heinrich III, had fallen in love with his bondswoman. Her name was Sigena. Bondswomen were nothing more than slaves, so Richolf could not father free children with her. As a sign of their freedom the emperor hits a coin out of the nobleman’s hand, and Richolf can take her as his wife.

The traces of the couple get lost. What has remained is the deed of this ceremonial act. In this deed Nuremberg is mentioned in a document for the first time. This happened on 16 July 1050.

However in room no. 42 you will find traces…
